  1. Most people have probably forgotten this now but FIFA did England a massive favour and probably made this result possible the day before this game when, with three group games still to be played, they suddenly announced that they'd made the draw for the play-offs behind closed doors and that the runners-up in England's group would play Ukraine or Belarus in the play-offs.

I remember England fans and, I'm sure, players too were worried about how hard the play-offs would be if we didn't win this game, so it came as a great relief to know that, worst case scenario, we'd only have to beat Ukraine to get to the World Cup.

That meant we went into this game in a pretty relaxed mood, knowing that defeat wouldn't be a disaster.

  2. A game looked after by the best referee there ever was and although it was a team game I was even more proud all 5 goals were scored by Liverpool legends. YNWA

  3. Germany 1 – Liverpool 5. You missed the real highlight of the game, Gerrard nutmegging Hamman then just turning around and doing him again for fun. Watched this in the First National (RIP), probably around the time I started to fall out of love with watching the national team tbh. Bit of a last hurrah. Liverpool was absolutely chocker that night anyway and there was a proper party atmosphere that I've only seen beaten after European Cup finals.
